Project 14-1
Open task manager, use snipping tool to show processes running in normal Windows. Boot up in Safe Mode and do the same. Which processes were loaded normally are not loaded in Safe Mode.
*Snipping tool would not save in safe mode. But I took pictures with my camera, they are not pretty, but they get the job done. There were several programs and processes that were not started in Safe Mode. See pictures.
Project 14-2
1. Using MSconfig, disable all non-Windows startup items. Restart. Completed.
2. Download and install WinPatrol from winpatrol.com.
3. Using MSconfig, enable all of the disabled startup items. Restart.
4. Are the startup programs able to start? What messages are displayed on the screen?
*After the restarting of my PC, it froze for 10 minutes, then right as I was going to do a hard shut down I started to receive the messages and they were asking if I wanted a program to start up. After I went through several messages from winpatrol, I received a message from my anti-virus asking if I wanted to delete the virus and run a boot time scan. I un-installed winpatrol, set all my startups back to pre-chapter 14 and did the boot time virus scan and removed the virus.
Project 14-3
Do the following and list the steps you took.
1. Configure Scheduled Tasks to launch Notepad each time the computer starts and any user log on.
Start, all programs, accessories, system tools, task scheduler. Task Scheduler opened and I clicked on create a new schedule and followed the wizard.
2. Put a shortcut in a startup folder so that any user launches a command prompt window at start up.
Opened up the startup folder, right clicked, chose shortcut, and entered the path of cmd.exe into the wizard.
3. Restart the system and verify that both programs are launched. Did you receive any errors?
No errors, notepad did not open but cmd did open.
4. Remove the two programs from the startup process.
Project 14-4
Install WinPatrol. Manually remove the software, listing the steps you used. After you have manually removed the software, reboot they system. Did you get any errors?
I un-installed WinPatrol when I got a virus. I installed FacebookMessenger and removed manually. I went to the C:\Program Files, deleted the program folder for FacebookMessenger. I then went to the regedit and removed all entries from the registry. I deleted all of the shortcuts and icons from the start menu. I rebooted the system and there were no errors. I checked the control panel, programs to see if the program was there and it was not. I used CCleaner to ensure that the program had been removed.
